Sporting a smart card while travelling in bus is no longer
a distant dream. The smart card was launched by Chief Minister Narendra Modi at the concluding ceremony of Kankaria Carnival on Saturday.
If someone is found jumping the smart card sensors, he/she will be fined Rs 100
With smart card recognition installed at every BRTS stop, passengers will no longer have to wait in long queues to buy tickets.
A passenger just needs to show his smart card in front of the recogniser which will automatically deduct the amount for the travel and open the gate for him to enter the bus corridor.
Procedure to go ‘smart’
The smart card can be availed at any BRTS station at Rs 25, which will be non-refundable, and it comes with a lifetime validity.
Similar to a SIM card, the smart card will need recharge depending on the passengers’ usage. The recharge can be done in multiples of Rs 50 from any BRTS station. However, a passenger can use only one smart card.
The card when swiped will show the remaining balance in the card. This will help the passenger to know when he/she will need to recharge his card again.
Every time a passenger swipes the card,
his entry in the bus will be counted. But if the passenger fails to show the card before getting off at his destination, he/she will be automatically charged a maximum bus fare of Rs 21. If someone is found jumping the smart card sensors, he/she will be fined Rs 100.
Once a passenger has swiped the card, he/she can travel in the bus for 100 minutes after which he/she will have to repeat the procedure. In case the card is damaged, it can be replaced at any BRTS station.
